Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kathmandu University, Nepal, and Director of the Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC). He also serves as Affiliate Professor in Bioengineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, and as Graduate Academic Advisor at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Thailand.
Born in 1967, he holds a B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering (Kerala Agricultural University, India), an M.Sc in Agricultural Mechanization (University of Miyazaki, Japan, Summa Cum Laude), a PhD in Agricultural Engineering (Kagoshima University, Japan), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan State University, USA. His expertise spans automation, agriculture and rural development, near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, image processing, biomass energy, and sanitation.
He has led major international projects, including a USD 10M+ KOICA-funded Integrated Rural Development Programme, and collaborations supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Bank, JICA, U.S. Department of State, and others. Fluent in Japanese, English, Nepali, Nepal Bhasa, and Hindi, he has extensive professional experience across Asia, Europe, the USA, and beyond, and remains active in research, leadership, and bilateral academic partnerships.
