Prof. Dr. Hassan Sher is a Pakistani botanist and ecologist, and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Swat (serving until mid-2026). He is repeatedly ranked among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Stanford University/Elsevier list) and is a SAARC Gold Medalist.
His research focuses on plant ecology, ethnobotany, biodiversity conservation, and the sustainable management of natural resources, with particular emphasis on the Himalayan region. He has authored over 150 original research articles that have received approximately 6,000 citations. He has collaborated with organisations including IUCN, WWF, FAO, UNDP, and IFPRI on in-situ and ex-situ conservation, habitat restoration, and recovery of rare and endangered plant species. He has held senior academic and administrative roles at the University of Swat, including Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Director of the Centre for Plant Sciences and Biodiversity, and earlier terms as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. He also previously worked as Assistant Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia.
