I am Srishti Mandal from India. I was born and raised in the small town of Gangtok, Sikkim, where I proudly embrace my mixed heritage of Lepcha and Bengali descent. My academic journey commenced at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, where I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History.
Currently, I am pursuing my M.A. in Disaster Management, specializing in Disaster Policy and Action from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). My research focus centres on the intertwined aspects of Community Resilience and Identity Formation, particularly evident in the landslide-affected Rongs/Lepchas of Dzongu. Through a mini ethnographic study, I aim to unravel the resilience mechanisms within these communities and their impact on identity construction.
Beyond the academic realm, I find solace in exploration, travelling to new destinations whenever possible especially because due to my parents’ occupation I have been travelling my whole life in and around my country. Additionally, I express myself through music as a vocalist and hone my skills as a professional badminton and volleyball player. These pursuits not only bring joy but also instil a sense of discipline and perseverance.
With a passion for societal dynamics and disaster preparedness, I am determined to contribute meaningfully to community empowerment and resilience-building initiatives. My journey reflects a commitment to learning, growth, and making a positive impact in the world.
