HUC Election July 2025

A HUC election is for members to select leaders of the Consortium. The HUC Election July 2025 aims to select General Assembly Officers, President and two Vice Presidents and two Members of Executive Committee, one representing Early/Mid Career Cohorts and another Indigenous/Tribal communities.

The Call for General Assembly Officers Nominations and Call for Executive Committee Members were released in early June 2025. Upon rigorous review of 14 nominations for various seats from China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Germany and Norway, the Executive Committee recommends the candidates listed on this ballot for election.

Only HUC institutional and individual members with active membership can cast their votes, by virtual or other means. Candidates’ public profiles are available on HUC website. A complete nomination dossier – a Letter of Interest by the Candidate, Academic Curriculum Vitae, and an Institutional Endorsement – is accessible for voters through links.

The election is open from 11 through 21 July 2025. For technical assistance or to request an offline/ mail-in ballot, please contact huc.secretariat@gmail.com

Candidate for HUC President

The HUC President is an honorary title for the senior-most representative of the Consortium. The HUC President represents the Consortium regionally and internationally and presides over the meetings of the General Assembly, the highest governing and decision-making body of the HUC. The President is elected for a three-year term, renewable once. Criteria for selection are listed in the Call for Nomination. The candidate will be confirmed as elected upon receipt of more than half affirmative votes of the total votes cast.

Since Nepal has been identified as the country among the eight Hindu Kush Himalayan nations with the most enabling conditions for international mobility and cooperation, the HUC’s legal registration will, therefore, take place in Nepal. The first President, who will lead the legal registration and transition to independence process, is desirably a Nepali national.

Candidates for HUC Vice Presidents

The two Vice Presidents assist the President in building consensus of the General Assembly, the highest governing and decision-making body of the HUC and representing the Consortium regionally and internationally. The two VPs are authorized to act on behalf of the President when the President is unable to represent the HUC. The Vice President is elected for a three-year term, renewable once.

There are two (2) vacant seats of HUC Vice Presidents at this time. Criteria for selection are listed in the Call for Nomination. Two candidates with the highest numbers of affirmative votes will be confirmed as Vice Presidents.
